BCC 3000

General remarks:

The BCC 3000 control system serves for the controlled braking of a drive, especially that of a conveyor belt. Through the closed loop concept by which the actual speed of rotation is compared with the set speed of rotation, the drive can always be braked within the same time and in a linear manner independently of the loading or load.

The system consists of four components:
An hydraulic unit at which the pressure can be steplessly varied via an electrically activated proportional pressure control valve; a speed sensor which measures the speed of the drive and passes it to the control unit; the actual control unit with optional USV so that control is possible even with a power failure; one or more hydraulic brakes actuated from the control unit.

Function:

When the installation is switched off, the brakes are closed by spring power. After the service voltages needed have been applied and the command to open the brakes sent to the control unit, the hydraulic unit applies pressure to the brakes which then open.

After the drive provided by the customer has been switched off, a time ramp for the set speed is generated in the control unit. The contact pressure of the brakes is constantly modified by the comparison between the set value and the actual value of the speed. If the speed is too low due to a small load or flywheel mass, the contact pressure of the brakes is reduced. Conversely, if the speed is too high, the contact pressure is increased. After the control phase has ended, the hydraulic pressure is lowered completely. The brakes hold the drive with full braking torque.

Advantages:
  • The “smooth” braking puts less stress on the drive components and thus increases their service life.
  • When several conveyor belts are arranged one after the other, the synchronous braking of the belts avoids spillage at the transfer points.
  • Within certain limits, fluctuations in the frictional value between the brake lining and the brake disc are compensated by the continuous regulation of the contact pressure.
